Niels Christian Rasmussen Gestalten, 2018
Aled Smith vus, 2019
This concert showcases music for low instruments – double bass and contrabass clarinet – and a composer’s audio-visual response to changes in the Nottinghamshire mining landscape.
It kicks off with Hard Knocks for acoustic double bass with electronic effects pedals, the result of a collaboration between composer Elizabeth Kelly and bassist/music technologist Simon Paterson, colleagues in the University of Nottingham Department of Music.
Next, Sheffield-based composer Amanda Johnson explores changes in the mining landscape of the East Midlands in an installation piece that includes phrases of 'Pit Talk', the endangered language of Nottinghamshire miners.
The final set features contrabass clarinetist Jason Alder in three works which explore different approaches to combining the unique low instrument with electronics.

Folk Meets Classical Music: newest contemporary pieces by young and talented composers from all around |
Metaphysics lead us to believe that time and space form a continuum which bends, folds of warps from the observer’s point of view.
Join us for a time warp, caused by the magic of folk art and the imagination of contemporary artists, reflecting ancient images and sounds in the mirror of today.
New musical works by Aftab Darvishi (Iran), Shoko Nagamachi (Japan), Andys Skordis (Cyprus), Wilma Pistorius (South Africa), and Louis Aguirre (Cuba) |

On Friday, January 25, 2008
world-renowned saxophonist/bass clarinetist/composer Andrew D'Angelo
suffered a major seizure while driving in Brooklyn, NY.
Tests in the hospital revealed a large tumor in his brain. Andrew will
undergo brain surgery at some point in the next few weeks. At this time,
it is believed that the tumor is not cancerous, but this will not be
confirmed until a biopsy is performed. Like many Americans, Andrew has
no health insurance.
A fund has been established to help with the costs of his surgery and
recovery. Donations can be sent via PayPal at donate@andrewdangelo.com.
We deeply appreciate any efforts that can be made to spread the word
about Andrew's situation.Benefit concerts are currently being planned
for New York City and Boston. More information on www.andrewdangelo.com
or visit Jasper Stadhouders for full program.
